25th July 2025 – Balmoral Cairns Walk
Distance: 8-10km (route dependent on group) Ascent: 200 – 350m (route dependent on group)
Time: 4 hours
Start: 10am at Crathie car park
Delving back in time and following the footsteps of Queen Victoria to visit some of the cairns she built for her family on hills near Balmoral Castle.
While walking through the tranquil woods we will encounter great views of the Castle and over the Estate to make the hills worth the effort. Plenty of history and conservation projects of the estate to discuss along the way.
Terrain: Grassy footpaths that can be muddy in places. Some steep climbs and a few rough patches.

3rd October 2025 – Roaring of the Reds, Glen Muick
Distance: 3-6km (depending where the deer are) Ascent: 200m max
Time: 2-3 hours
Start: 6pm at Glen Muick Visitor Centre
A characteristic of Scotland in Autumn – the red deer rut! Immerse yourself in the hills surrounded by the roaring of the red deer! A magnificent spectacle to witness.
This walk very much depends on the location of the deer, and we may use estate vehicles to change location depending where the deer are. A slower wander near Loch Muick taking in the atmosphere and all an autumn evening in Scotland can offer.
Terrain: Mainly on land-rover tracks, possibly crossing some heathery hillside for a better position.
